Important information for Mac owners that are about to complete the current OS update – Please read on – Apple recently released a new Operating System update for Macintosh computers.
It is called Catalina with the Version number of 10.15. Whilst this is a great operating system and it brings lots of great new features to your Mac, there is a couple of things current Mac owners should be aware of prior to installing this latest update.
1. Ensure you have a completed up to date Time Machine backup BEFORE your install Catlina.
2. Very importantly, be aware Catalina 10.15 no longer supports 32bit Apps – i.e: Old versions of Microsoft Word and Excel, and old versions of Adobe CS suites (PhotoShop etc) as well as a number of other older software titles.
If you have these applications installed on your Mac, upon opening your Mac with Catalina the first time after the update, you will see these applications have a line through their icons. This means they no longer work.
At this point, a Mac user has 2 possible decisions to make to resolve this problem. Purchase an updated version of the applications that no longer works, or, restore back to the last best known Time Machine backup.
Unfortunately, there is no other way around this. If you are unsure of your choices, please give us a call to discuss.
But in all cases, ensure your Time Machine backup is completed.
